Men’s Basketball: MSU Denver Begins National Search For Next Head Coach

Clark Exits With .776 Winning Percentage

Denver – Metropolitan State University of Denver Director of Athletics Dr. Anthony Grant announced today that a national search will begin for the next head men's basketball coach.

"MSU Denver has a tradition of being one of the top NCAA Division II programs in the nation," said Grant.  "We will look to continue our championship tradition with the next head coach for the Roadrunners.  This position will undoubtedly attract some of the best coaching talent in the nation."

MSU Denver will look to replace Derrick Clark after the two parted ways on Monday.  Clark tallied a record of 173-50 during his seven years at the helm of the Roadrunners basketball program.  He was the fastest coach in school history to reach 100 wins.  During his career at MSU Denver, Clark guided MSU Denver to the NCAA Division II National Championship game in 2013, a Final Four appearance in 2014, and an Elite Eight appearance in 2012.  The Roadrunners qualified for the NCAA Tournament in each of Clark's first five seasons.  He also led the Roadrunners to three Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) regular season championships and two RMAC tournament titles.

"Coach Clark led the men's basketball program the last seven years," said Grant.  "He continued to build on the successful tradition that was started nearly 20 years ago with Mike Dunlap.  I wish him the best in his future endeavors."
