When it came to winning women's basketball games, there was

nobody better than Darryl Smith.
In eight years before Smith took over, the program won just 32 games. In Smith's first two years as head coach, he won 39 games.
In each of his eight seasons, Smith posted a winning record, including a school record 25-5 in the 1997-98 season.
At the time of his induction, Smith was Metro State as the school's all-time winningest coach with a record of 170-64 (.726), winning 20-plus games six times.
His best season came in 1998 when the Roadrunners won a school record 25 games (25-5) and won the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference East Division and tournament championships. The team made its third appearance in the NCAA Tournament and finished the season ranked 20th in the nation.
Fort his efforts, Smith was honored as the RMAC Coach of the Year, the only women's basketball coach to earn the award in school history.
His teams also made the NCAA Tournament in 1994 and 1996.
After leaving Metro State, Smith took over the reigns as the head coach of NCAA Division I Wichita State. He led the Shockers to back-to-back postseason appearances (1999 and 2000), the only two postseason appearances in the school's history.
In his four years at WSU, Smith remains the winningest coach in school history with a .526 winning percentage (60-54).
