Assistant Sports Information Director 1989-94
Doug Montgomery remains a prominent figure in the history

of Metro State for both his contributions on the baseball field and in the office of sports information. After finishing a four-year playing career (1984-87), Montgomery spent two years as an assistant media relations director with the Denver Zephyrs Triple-A minor league baseball team, before serving as assistant sports information director and promotions director at Metro State from 1989-94. After his time at Metro State, Montgomery accepted the position of sports information director at Regis University.
He was an outstanding third baseman for the Roadrunners, earning third team all-region and first team All-Colorado Intercollegiate Baseball Association honors as a senior in 1987. Montgomery remained third all-time in home runs at Metro State with 32 career long balls and ranked ninth in runs batted in with 132 at the time of his induction. His 14 home runs in 1987 was fifth on the single season all-time list and his RBIs (58) and total bases (129) that year are both eighth.
Montgomery was also an excellent student, being named honorable mention Academic All-District three times. He graduated from Metro State in 1990 with a degree in criminal justice and a minor in political science.
After his two-year stint with the Zephyrs, he provided excellent coverage for Roadrunner athletics as assistant SID and promotions director. Besides performing daily duties as an SID such as media relations, game management, writing press releases and promoting the teams, Montgomery frequently served as a color or play-by-play announcer for radio broadcasts for Roadrunner events in the Denver area.
