Women's Basketball 1989-93
When looking through the MSU Denver record books, Holly Roberts' name is listed prominently on the all-time category leader lists. She was also the first athlete in school history to have her jersey retired (No. 50).
A native of Oakland, Calif., Roberts was the first player in school history (men or women) to compile 1,000 points (1,383) and 1,000 rebounds (1,264). Right away, she established herself as a premier defender. She wasn't too bad of an offensive threat either. In her sophomore season, Roberts led the team in scoring and rebounding with 16.8 points and 14.2 rebounds per game (second in NCAA Division II). She also blocked a school-record 76 shots, a feat she matched two seasons later.
She set single-game records for rebounds (27 vs. Regis, Feb. 23, 1991) and blocked shots (eight vs. Regis, Jan. 30, 1993), both of which remained at the time of her induction
For her career, Roberts averaged 12.7 points and 11.6 rebounds per game. She set single-season marks for rebounds (398) and rebound average (14.2). She finished her career ranked first all-time in rebounds (1,267), blocked shots (261), free throws made (451) and free throws attempted (681). Roberts' records remained at the time of her induction. Her name was also among the leaders in games played, games started, field goals made, field goals attempted, points scored and minutes played.
Roberts was the Colorado Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 1991-92 and a first team All-CAC pick for three straight years (1991-93). She also participated in the 1991 U.S. Olympic Festival North Regional Trials. In addition, Roberts was a Denver Post All-Small College first team selection as a senior.
