MSU Denver Athletics

Brown was the first baseball coach in MSU Denver history, leading the program to a 34-22 record over two seasons from 1968 through 1969.
  
Brown had multiple successful endeavors beyond his time at MSU Denver in coaching, officiating and broadcasting.

He was the baseball coach at Colorado for nine years, compiling a 224-158-2 record. He coached Colorado's freshman football team in 1972, and was a defensive line coach for the Buffaloes' football team for three years.
 
He was a high-level college basketball referee, officiating six Final Fours between 1969 and 1980. He served as commissioner of the Colorado Athletic Conference, of which MSU Denver was a member. He was the color analyst on broadcast of football and basketball games, including covering the NBA. And he was a co-star of "The Irv and Joe Show" on Mile High Sports Radio as sports talk radio took off during the 1970s and 1980s.

He was a star athlete at Denver North High School, played baseball and basketball at Northern Colorado, and coached at Arvarda High School

He was inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame in 1997, and into the MSU Denver Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012.
 
Brown was revered for his ability to remember everyone – his or her name, background and connections through coaches or relatives.
