Rich Grosz was the first in a long line of outstanding Metro State men's basketball players, leading the team from its inception in 1984-85 for four years.  At the time of his induction, Grosz held the career rebounding average record of 8.3 per game and is second in total rebounds at 893.

Grosz was a 6-foot-9 center from Evergreen, Colo., and also held the career record for double-doubles with 35 and consecutive games with a double-double (4).  After averaging a modest 8.0 points and 5.3 rebounds as a freshman, he exploded to average over nine rebounds during each of his final three seasons and over 11 points each year as well.  He posted career highs of 14.3 points and 9.5 rebounds per game as a senior in 1987-88.  Shun Tillman in 1989-90 is the only other Metro State player to average over nine rebounds per game in a single season.

As a senior, he was a first team All-Great Northwest Conference selection after earning second team honors as a junior.  Grosz was a main reason Metro State had a .500 or better record during each of the first four years of the men's basketball program.
