Baseball 1988-92
Rusty Befus at the time of induction remained the most decorated baseball player in Metro State history. The Longmont, Colo., native to this day held career records for hits (247), home runs (45), home runs (203), total bases (444) and runs scored (184).
As a sophomore in 1989, he was named first team All-Colorado Intercollegiate Baseball Association for the second consecutive season after tying the school record with 15 home runs, while hitting .380 with 52 runs batted in. His .772 slugging percentage ranked third in school history and remained the fourth-best ever in a season at the time of his induction.
He picked up where he left off as a junior in 1990, again earning first team All-CIBA for the third time in his career. He tied the single season home run record again with 15 bombs and batted .363 with 50 runs batted in.
As a senior in 1992 after a redshirt year, he hit a career-best .389 with 58 RBIs, 16 doubles and six home runs, but did not earn any postseason awards as the CIBA broke apart and Metro State was not a member of a conference in 1992.
