Baseball 1987-89
Torin Berge is the greatest hitter in Metro State history, holding

career records for multiple hitting categories.
Berge led all of Division II in batting average as a sophomore in 1987, hitting .487 with 76 hits in 156 at bats. He also finished ninth in doubles (0.39 per game) and helped the Roadrunners finish second in the country with a .368 batting average. The 1987 squad posted the school's best record in school history, going 34-15. The 34 wins stood as a record until 2008.
He again hit .487 as a junior and finished sixth in the country in hitting, while adding 24 doubles and seven home runs. Berge became Metro State's first All-America baseball player, earning ABCA third team honors as a junior.
Berge followed his junior season with another All-America season as a senior as he was named to the second team after batting .412 with 12 home runs, 56 runs batted in. He struck out just one time in 165 at bats during his senior campaign, while walking 33 times.
At the time of his induction, Berge held career records at Metro State for batting average (.461), slugging percentage (.756), on-base percentage (.553) and doubles (65). His .487 batting average in 1987 was a single season record, as was his .601 on-base percentage in 1988.
In addition to his All-America honors, he was named Colorado Intercollegiate Baseball Association Most Valuable Player in each of his three seasons for the Roadrunners.
Following his career at Metro State, he was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 30th round and batted .253 in 35 games for the Reds Class-A affiliate.
