Volleyball 1987-88
Despite playing just two years at Metro State, Verna Julaton's name lights up the record books. After transferring from Mesa State, she led to a record of 59-25 in two years, including the school's first NCAA Tournament appearance as a senior in 1988.
She was a two-time first team All-Continental Divide Conference selection and was the CDC Most Valuable Player in 1988 when she also earned AVCA first team all-region. She was also honored for All-Around Athletic Ability at the Sportswomen of Colorado banquet on March 5, 1989.
Julaton totaled 633 (sixth-most in school history) digs as a junior and 527 as a senior, but it was her setting that led the team. She dished out 1,757 set assists as a senior, the third-most in a single season in school history. Julaton ranks sixth all-time in digs per set (3.85), seventh in assists per set (8.98) and eighth in assists (2,703). All of these records remained at the time of her induction.
