The No. 18 Metro State men's soccer team (8-3-3, 5-1-2 RMAC) scored two late game goals to defeat No. 24 Colorado School of Mines, 2-0, Friday afternoon in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play at Auraria Field.
The game remained scoreless in the first half as both teams played stingy defense. Kellen Johnson started the second half by beating the Mines defense and scoring his 11th goal of the season. Scott Grode sealed the victory 10 minutes later taking a pass from Ola Sandquist and putting the game away, 2-0.
The victory and Fort Lewis' tie against CSU Pueblo, has the 'Runners in position to challenge for the RMAC title. MSCD returns to the field Sunday against Colorado Christian at 2:30 p.m.
