Comeback Falls Short in Season Opener

The Metro State women's basketball team (0-1) rebounded from a slow start but could not overcome Minnesota-Moorhead, 62-56, Saturday night at the Auraria Events Center.

"We made some adjustments in the second half," Head Coach Linda Lappe said. "We put ourselves in a position to win; an offensive rebound or missed layup was the difference at the end of the game."

The 'Runners offense started slowly in the first half, shooting 28%, while the Dragons shot 42% to lead 34-22. Minnesota-Moorhead continued its momentum to start the second half, leading 38-26 with 12 inutes remaining in the game. Metro State found its offensive rhythm, going on a 20-9 run to close the game to 46-47. The 'Runners missed a layup and two three pointers late and could not pull any closer than two points.

Freshman Sharaya Selsor had 11 points, followed by Chelsea LeFebre with 10.

Metro State now travels to St. Paul, Minn. to take on Bemidji State, Friday ay 6 p.m. MT and Concordia-St. Paul, Saturday at 4 p.m. MT.
