Metro State Cruises Past Western State

DENVER, Colo. - Metro State improved to 3-1 in conference play after cruising to a 78-56 win over visiting Western State.

Four Roadrunners scored in double figures led by Rae Bean (Lakewood, Colo./Bear Creek H.S.)'s game-high 16 points. Bean, a junior from Lakewood, Colo., turned in her second double-double in as many nights by grabbing 11 rebounds. Megan Sinclair tallied 14 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field. Erin Doherty and Kiley Gill came off the bench to chip in 13 and 11 points, respectively.

As a team, the Roadrunners shot 54.2 percent from the field, including 52.9 percent from beyond the arc, en route to their second-highest point total of the season.

The Roadrunners, who never trailed in the contest, used a 14-4 run late in the first half to pull away from the Mountaineers and held a 35-19 lead at the break. Metro State stretched its lead to 65-37 with 7:07 remaining before coasting to its fourth win of the year.

Kayla Mellegard led Western State with 11 points.

Next up for Metro State is a home date vs. Montana State-Billings on Jan. 2 at 3 p.m.
