Balanced Offense Leads Metro State Past Mines, 3-0

The Metro State volleyball team (18-8, 16-3 RMAC) finished regular season play with a 3-0 victory over Colorado School of Mines, Saturday night in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play in Golden, Colo. The 'Runners prevailed 25-17, 25-22, 25-21.

The two teams traded points early in the first set until sophomore defensive specialist Sarah Vallejos served eight straight points to give the 'Runners a 20-14 advantage. Freshman Bri Morley finished the set with a kill and a block solo.

Metro State got out to an 11-8 advantage in the second set, but Mines battled back to tie the score at 17-17. A kill by Emily Greenhalgh and two consecutive Mines hitting errors gave the 'Runners a 20-17 lead. The teams traded points until Morley again put the set away with a kill.

The third set was again close early with neither team leading by more than two points. At 18-18, sophomore middle blocker Lisa Jones served an ace and freshman Julie Causseaux followed with three consecutive kills to give the Roadrunners a commanding 22-18 lead. Causseaux would add two more kills, including the match winner.

Morley and Greenhalgh led the offense with 11 kills, followed by Amanda Cook with nine kills and Causseaux and Lisa Jones with eight apiece.

The 'Runners will now travel to Kearney, Neb. for the RMAC Tournament, Nov. 14-16.
