The No. 25 Metro State Men's Soccer team upset No. 17 Colorado School of Mines, 2-1 Sunday afternoon in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play in Golden, Colo.
MSCD used a stingy defense to secure the upset, allowing the Orediggers just three shots on goal. Steven Emory scored the 'Runners first goal on a penalty kick in the 34th minute. The game remained tied with four and a half minutes remaining in regulation when Mines' Cameron Brown scored to tie the score at 1-1. It looked like the game was headed for overtime until Tyler Hambrick took a pass from Kellen Johnson and scored with just under two minutes remaining in the game.
The victory improves MSCD to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the RMAC. Mines fell to 2-2-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the RMAC.
The 'Runners travel to UC-Colorado Springs Friday at 1 p.m.
