DENVER, Colo. - Rae Bean led Metro State with 21 points vs. crosstown rival Regis, but the Roadrunners fell short as Chelsea Porter hit a three-pointer as time expired to lift the Rangers, 52-51, at the Auraria Event Center.
Regis held the lead for 39 minutes and 45 seconds of the 40-minute contest before Megan Sinclair hit a pair of free throws to give the Roadrunners a 50-49 edge with just 15 seconds remaining. Courtney Ault's three-point attempt on the next Regis possession went awry, and the Roadrunners grabbed the rebound. Leandra Sands added a free throw for Metro State for a 51-49 advantage with just six seconds remaining, but Regis pushed the ball up the court and found Porter free in the corner for the game-winning shot.
Bean helped the Roadrunners close a 16-point gap in the second half, scoring 19 of her game-high 21 points after intermission. Sinclair added 11 points and 10 rebounds for Metro State, now 7-9 overall and 5-3 in RMAC play.
Ault led Regis with 13 points, while Porter scored six. The Rangers improved to 9-7 overall and 6-2 in the RMAC.
The Roadrunners wrap up their four-game home stand with a matchup vs. the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Friday, Jan. 23 at 5 p.m. Metro State then travels for four RMAC contests before returning home Feb. 6.
