Metro State Posts Win at Colorado Christian

LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Jesse Wagstaff led four Roadrunners in double figures with 25 points as Metro State posted an 88-80 road win vs. Colorado Christian, marking its eighth straight conference victory.

The Roadrunners trailed 36-31 at intermission, but rallied for a 57-point second half by shooting 65.4 percent from the field (17-for-26) after the break. Metro State hit 6-of-10 three-pointers in the second half as well, led by Guiseppe Ciancio and Brian Minor, who combined for 4-of-5 shooting beyond the arc in the period.

Minor started a 15-3 run over the first five minutes of the second half with his three-pointer as the Roadrunners built a 46-41 lead with 15:12 remaining. A Justin Neuhaus jumper gave Colorado Christian a one-point advantage, 61-60, with 7:32 to play, but the Roadrunners responded with an 11-0 run to take a 10-point lead with 5:34 left on the clock.

The Cougars pulled to within 72-68 on Brendan Puckett's layup, but Metro State connected on 12-of-14 free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

Minor finished the game with 15 points, followed by Marquise Carrington with 14 and Donte Nicholas with 12. Puckett led the Cougars with 25 points.

Metro State improved to 15-3 overall and 9-1 in the RMAC, while Colorado Christian slipped to 11-7 overall and 6-4 in conference play.

The Roadrunners play at Colorado Mines, Saturday, Jan. 31, before returning to the Auraria Event Center for a four-game home stand beginning with Chadron State Feb. 7.
