Roadrunners Escape Kearney on Minor's Buzzer Beater

KEARNEY, Neb. - Jesse Wagstaff found Brian Minor underneath for a layup with as time expired as Metro State escaped Nebraska-Kearney with a 64-63 victory. The Roadrunners overcame a 12-point halftime deficit to post their 13th straight victory of the season, improving to 21-3 overall and 15-1 in the RMAC.

Nebraska-Kearney led 63-62 lead with just two 1.6 on the clock after a Richard Marion jumper, but Metro State found a way to score the winning bucket as Wagstaff lofted the ensuing inbounds pass to Minor, who got behind all five Lopers to beat the clock with his game-winning layup. "I felt I had at least one dribble and could power it and get it up there as fast as I could. I looked at the clock one time, took off running, got the ball, finished. It hasn't hit me yet. It's crazy," said Minor.

Chris Robinson opened the second half with his first bucket of the game to trim the Loper lead to 37-27. Josiah Parker nailed a jumper to push the Loper lead back to 12 at 41-29, before Marquise Carrington fueled a 15-2 run for the Roadrunners over the next four minutes by draining three three-pointers to give Metro State a 44-43 lead with 13:06 remaining.

Donte Nicholas led Metro State with a game-high 20 points, while Carrington posted nine points and five assists.

As a team, Metro State outscored UNK 38-22 in the paint, including a 24-4 margin in the second half. Minor led a strong performance from the bench with seven points as the Roadrunners outscored UNK 15-0 in bench points.

Parker led three Lopers in double figures with 19 points. UNK dropped to 9-14 overall and 6-10 in the RMAC.

The Roadrunners travel to Chadron State Saturday.
