Metro State Cruises Past Lopers

DENVER, Colo.- Jesse Wagstaff led three Roadrunners in double figures with 19 points as Metro State recorded its 10th straight win by defeating Nebraska-Kearney, 82-60, at the Auraria Events Center.

Donte Nicholas was credited with the assist as he hooked up with Nelson Ekeh for the two-handed slam dunk to open the game for the Roadrunners. The teams exchanged leads early in the half, but Chris Robinson drained a three-pointer with 4:06 remaining in the half to give the Roadrunners an 11-point advantage, 33-22. Daniel Bass buried a three-pointer just before the horn ended the first half, giving the Roadrunners a 42-31 lead going into the locker room.

The Roadrunners expanded their lead in the second half as Jesse Wagstaff nailed four three-pointers within a 3:45 span to push the Roadrunner lead to 24 points, 63-39, with 14:06 remaining in the game. The largest lead for Metro State was 28 points, 80-52, with 3:56 left to play.

Metro State, now 18-3 overall and 12-1 in conference play, connected on 34-of-64 field goals (53.1 percent), including 9-of-20 (45 percent) on three-pointers. The Roadrunners tallied 17 assists, including a season-high nine from Marquise Carrington. Chris Robinson posted 14 points, followed by Nelson Ekeh with 10 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the field.

Jeremy Cruise had a team-high 15 points for the Lopers, who slipped to 7-13 overall and 4-9 in the RMAC.

The Roadrunners play their final two regular season home games next weekend, Feb. 13-14, vs. Colorado School of Mines and Colorado Christian, respectively. The Feb. 14th game has been designated Fan Appreciation Day, with plenty of giveaways and a pre-game tailgate party at 11:30 a.m. at the Event Center. The men's game tips off at 1 p.m. and will be nationally televised live on CBS CollegeSports. The women's game follows at 3:30 p.m.
