Huge Second Half Leads to Road Victory at Highlands

Metro State outscored New Mexico Highlands 42-21 in the second half to rally from an eight-point halftime deficit and go on to a 68-55 win on the road on Friday.  The Roadrunners evened their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference record to 3-3 and improved to 8-6 overall.  The Cowgirls fell to 6-7 overall and 1-5 in the RMAC.

Metro State shot 61.9 (13-for-21) percent in the second half after converting just 33.3 (8-for-24) percent in the first half.  Trailing 46-40 with 13 minutes left, the Roadrunners went on a 20-6 run over the next 10+ minutes to lead 60-52 with 2:35 to play.

Jasmine Cervantes (Johnstown, Colo./Berthoud H.S.) and Chelsea Williamson (Boulder, Colo./Boulder H.S.) each scored 16 points to lead four Metro State players in double figures.  Cervantes hit 5-of-10 from the floor, including a career-high two 3-point field goals, and 4-for-4 at the line, scoring 14 points in the second half.  She added six rebounds and three steals.

Williamson buried 5-of-9 from the floor and 4-of-5 at the line and had five rebounds and three assists.  Candice Kohn (Midland, Texas/Midland Christian H.S.) and Brandi Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) each scored 11 points.

The Roadrunners will travel to Colorado State-Pueblo for a 6 p.m. game on Saturday.
