Roadrunners Edged in Overtime After Late Comeback

Box Score

DURANGO, Colo. -
Fort Lewis scored with less than five minutes left in overtime to edge No. 6 Metro State 3-2 in Durango, Colo., on Friday.  The loss dropped the Roadrunners to 7-2-2 overall and 4-1-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while the Skyhawks improved to 7-4-0 and 6-1-0 in the RMAC.

Metro State took the lead in the 22nd minute when Chris Yoder (Gilbert, Ariz./Mesquite H.S.) connected from outside the box after receiving a pass from Scott Crawford (Arvada, Colo./Pomona H.S.).

The Skyhawks tied the game less than two minutes before halftime as Fabian Kling scored on a free kick from the top of the box.  They took the lead less than two minutes into the second half as Joe Barnd scored on a cross from Thomas Hoang.

Fort Lewis controlled the ball for much of the second half, but Steven Emory (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins H.S.) capitalized on a mistake, scoring from 15 yards out in the 86th minute after a failed attempt by FLC to clear the ball.

The game went to overtime, but Kling ended the game, scoring on a header off a free kick from Barnd.

Issa Bissau (Denver, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) stopped 12 shots, the most saves for a Roadrunner goalkeeper in 13 years.  Stephen Babby made 14 saves against Fort Lewis on Sept. 27, 1997, the last time anyone stopped 12 or more shots.

Metro State will play at Mesa State at noon on Sunday.
