DENVER - Metro State rebounded from its second conference loss this season with a dominating 60-46 victory over Western State at home on Friday. The Roadrunners improved to 15-3 overall and 12-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while WSC fell to 5-14 and 4-10.
Metro State fell 59-54 at Adams State last Saturday, snapping an 11-game winning streak.
Reggie Evans (Aurora, Colo./Rangeview H.S.) led all scorers with 21 points off the bench, hittng 7-of-14 from the floor and 5-of-6 at the line. He also had three steals.
Jonathan Morse (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) neared a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.
Glenn Miller (Sacramento, Calif./Foothill H.S.) scored eight points and pulled down seven boards.
Shakir Johnson (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey H.S.) gave Metro State an excellent performance off the bench on both ends of the floor, scoring seven points with five rebounds, while tying a career high with six blocked shots.
It was the fourth time this season the Roadrunners have held an opponent under 50 points. They held WSC to just 30.6 percent shooting, the sixth time an opponent has been under 35 percent. Metro State also outrebounded the Mountaineers 29-24 and committed just 13 turnovers, while forcing 16. The Roadrunners also blocked a season-high nine shots.
Metro State dominated from the opening tip, leading 9-1 six-and-a-half minutes into the game. WSC had a brief run as it tied the game at 11-11 with 7:20 left in the first half, but the Roadrunners took a 28-21 lead into halftime.
That lead was quickly stretched to double digits, where it remained for the final 14 minutes of the game. Metro State led by as much as 18 points at 46-28 with 11 minutes left.
Metro State will host Mesa State at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
