Hot shooting leads men's basketball to 28-point victory

Box Score DENVER – Metro State had four starters score in double figures as the third-ranked Roadrunners defeated Western New Mexico 85-57 on Saturday night in the Auraria Event Center. Metro improved to 7-0 and 2-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while WNMU fell to 1-4 and 1-1.

Brandon Jefferson (Flower Mound, Texas/Lewisville H.S.) scored a game-high 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting and a team-high four assists and three steals. Reggie Evans (Aurora, Colo./Rangeview H.S.) added 15 points and five rebounds, also hitting 7-of-13 from the floor. Demetrius Miller (Flint, Mich./Flint Central H.S.) scored 14 points and Jonathan Morse (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) had 10. Paul Brotherson (Sydney, Australia/Westfields Sports High) chipped in with eight.

Morse also led the team with seven rebounds and Derrick January (Long Beach, Calif./Dominguez H.S.) and Tyler Cooper (Huntington Beach, Calif./Christian Heritage H.S.) had six each off the bench to help the Roadrunners to a 41-26 rebounding margin.

The Roadrunners shot 62.9 percent and committed just two turnovers in the first half to take a 50-23 lead into halftime. Jefferson buried a pair of 3-pointers in the final 2:01 to lead all scorers with 14 points at the break.

Metro stretched its lead out to 40 at 78-38 with 7:48 left and never led by less than 28 the entire second half.

For the game, the Roadrunners shot 53.1 percent, while holding the Mustangs to just 36.5 percent.

Metro State will be back in action at Nebraska-Kearney on Friday.
