Haave Named RMAC Coach of the Year; Bratton and Cervantes All-RMAC

Metro State women's basketball head coach Tanya Haave was named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Coach of the Year on Wednesday, while two of her players also earned all-conference honors.  Cassondra Bratton (Arvada, Colo./Pomona H.S.) was a first team All-RMAC pick and Jasmine Cervantes (Johnstown, Colo./Berthoud H.S.) was named second team all-conference.

Haave, in her first season at Metro State, led the Roadrunners to its first RMAC regular season championship since 1998.  Haave's team is currently 26-1 overall and finished the conference season with a 21-1 record.  In Tuesday night's 70-50 win over Western State in the RMAC Shootout quarterfinals, Metro State set school records for wins in a season and longest home winning streak (18).  Metro State was picked sixth in the RMAC preseason coaches poll.

Bratton, a 5-foot-10 senior forward from Arvada, Colo., leads the Roadrunners in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage, averaging 12.4 points and 8.0 rebounds, while shooting 54.2 percent from the floor.  In conference games, she finished third in field goal percentage (.553), fifth in rebounding (8.0), sixth in offensive rebounding (2.6) and 12th in scoring (12.8).

Cervantes, a 5-foot-8 junior guard from Johnstown, Colo., leads Metro State in free throw percentgae, assists, blocked shots and steals.  She is averaging 10.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.6 steals, while shooting 42.3 percent from the floor and 79.3 percent at the line.  In conference games, she led the RMAC in assists average (4.2), was third in free throw percentage (.833) and assist/turnover ratio (1.6) and was sixth in blocked shots (1.1).

Metro State will face Adams State at 1 p.m. on Friday in the semifinals of the RMAC Shootout at the State Fair Events Center in Pueblo.
