Lauren Quijano (Wildomar, Calif./Elsinore H.S.) led No. 7 Metro State with 12 kills and five blocks as the Roadrunners swept Colorado Mesa 25-13, 25-12, 25-22 on the road. The Roadrunners improved to 8-1 overall and 1-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CMU fell to 3-6 and 0-1.
Quijano had 12 kills in and one error in 24 attempts for a .458 hitting percentage.
Julie Causseaux (Dumas, Texas/Dumas H.S.) had a career-high .727 hitting percentage with nine kills and one error in 11 attempts from the middle.
Emily Greenhalgh (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.) added nine kills as well and
Alysa Heath (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) had seven.
Defensively,
Ngoc Phan (Lone Tree, Colo./Cherry Creek H.S.) led the team with 15 digs.
Bri Morley (Parker, Colo./Cherokee Trail H.S.) had 12 and
Alex Green (Peoria, Ariz./Cactus H.S.) had 10.
Setters
Darcy Schwartzman (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest H.S.) and
Vanessa Gemignani (Colorado Springs/Doherty H.S.) helped the Roadrunners hit a season-high .368 as Schwartzman had 21 assists and Gemignani had 18.
The Roadrunners dominated the first two sets, hitting .444 in the first and .452 in the second, while holding the Mavericks to just .031 and .036 in those respective sets. Metro State scored the final seven points of the first set with Green serving as the Roadrunners took advantage of five straight CMU errors. Metro State broke a 6-6 tie in the second with seven consecutive points.
Metro State will play at Fort Lewis on Friday night.
