DENVER – Metro State won its third straight game, topping Colorado Christian 2-0 at home on Friday afternoon. The Roadrunners improved to 5-2-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. CCU dropped to 0-7-1 and 0-3-0.
Metro State played sloppy at times in the first half, but managed 15 shots, including six on goal.
Scott Grode (Gilbert, Ariz./Basha H.S.) scored his eighth goal of the season at 38:32, firing a shot from just inside the top-left corner of the box.
Andrew Mejia (Littleton, Colo./Mullen H.S.) earned his first of a career-high two assists in the game on the play, setting up Grode for the shot.
Grode and several other Roadrunners had opportunities to add to the lead in the first half. Grode hit the right post with a header at 23:01 Grode and
T.J. Thiebaut (Pueblo, Colo./South H.S.) both had shots from inside the box saved in the 31st minute.
Mejia set up the second goal at 66:41, serving a long free kick into the box where
Brenden Hughes (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.) fired a low shot into the net.
The Roadrunners outshot CCU 29-8 for the game and held a 9-2 advantage on corner kicks.
Issa Bissau (Denver, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) made two saves for his third straight shutout.
Metro State will host No. 11 Colorado Mines at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
