Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - For the second night in a row, No. 3 Metro State was upset on the road, falling 64-47 at Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction on Saturday night. The Roadrunners dropped to 17-3 overall and 12-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CMU improved to 11-8 and 9-6.
It is the first time Metro has lost back-to-back games since Feb. 12-13, 2009.
Reggie Evans (Aurora, Colo./Rangeview H.S.) led all scorers with 20 points on 9-of-19 shooting and had a team-high six rebounds.
Nicholas Kay (Tamworth, Australia/Newington College) added 12 points off the bench, hitting 5-of-8 from the floor.
Metro was outrebounded 33-28 in the game. The Roadrunners have been outrebounded five times this season, including all three of their losses.
They also shot just 34.5 percent, compared to 52.8 percent by the Mavericks. Another big difference in the game was the foul count as the Roadrunners were whistled for 23 personals, compared to 15 on CMU. CMU converted 25-of-31(.806) at the line and Metro hit just 7-of-11 (.636).
The Mavericks built a 13-6 lead with 11:10 to go in the first half, but a 10-2 run later in the half erased the deficit and put Metro up 22-19 with 4:32 before the break as Evans got hot, scoring six of the 10 points. However, CMU recovered and both teams went into halftime tied 24-24.
Evans led all scorers with 10 points at the intermission. The Roadrunners committed just one turnover and forced seven in the first half.
With the score tied 32-32 with 13:55 remaining in the game, CMU went on a 10-0 run over the next five minutes to lead 42-32 and the Roadrunners never recovered.
Colton Burgon led CMU with 17 points.
Metro State will host Colorado Christian at 7 p.m. on Friday.
