Men's soccer: Herschberger's six points lead MSU to 7-0 win at CCU

Box Score LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Marc Herschberger recorded career-high six points as Metro State earned a 7-0 win at Colorado Christian on Wednesday afternoon in Lakewood. The Roadrunners improved to 7-4-0 overall and 4-3-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while the Cougars fell to 1-10-0 and 0-7-0 in the RMAC.

MSU led from just after the opening kick as Danny Arrubla headed in a long service from Nolan Glivar on the left wing just 2:49 into the game.

Herschberger got going at 16:22 with his first of two goals in the game. Arrubla crossed a ball from the right side to Pierce Galan, who headed the ball from the left side of the box towards the goal as Herschberger tapped in Galan's header for the score.

Herschberger then assisted on a goal by Arek Raclawski at 26:28 as Raclawski had an open shot from the top of the box.

It was those two players again working for the fourth goal, this time Raclawski assisting on Herschberger's goal.

The scoring continued just 3:38 into the second half when Arrubla was taken down by the goalkeeper on a breakaway in the box. Brenden Hughes scored on the penalty kick to push the lead to 5-0.

Arrubla got his second goal at 59:46, scoring on another breakaway. Andy Lopez forced a turnover deep in Metro State's zone, and launched a 50-yard pass to Arrubla to set up the score.

Lopez scored the game's final goal off a corner kick with less than three minutes left. Herschberger's service from the right corner was touched into the center of the box by Koko Zarov to Lopez's feet for the open shot.

The Roadrunners owned a 21-3 shots advantage. Shailer Thomas stopped both CCU shots on goal to earn his ninth career shutout.

Arrubla's five points tied a career high and it was his third multi-goal game of his freshman season. Herschberger had his second career multi-goal game and his fifth multi-assist game.

MSU will travel to Colorado State-Pueblo for a 7 p.m. game on Friday.
