Box Score CHADRON, Neb. - No. 23 Metro State closed out the regular season with a 25-17, 25-19, 25-19 win at Chadron State on Saturday night. The Roadrunners improved to 18-9 overall and 13-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CSC fell to 5-24 and 2-17.
The Roadrunners were strong defensively all night, holding the Eagles to a .080 hitting percentage with eight team blocks and 58 digs. Leading the way was
Alex Green (Peoria, Ariz./Cactus H.S.), who had 13 digs, followed by
Savannah Garcia (Platteville, Colo./Valley H.S.) and
Amy Wong (Litchfield Park, Ariz./Millennium H.S.) with nine each. At the net,
Daleah Whitaker (Denver/Lakewood H.S.) had five total blocks and
Lauren Quijano (Wildomar, Calif./Elsinore H.S.) had four block assists.
Offensively, Quijano and
Alysa Heath (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) each had a match-high 10 kills. Whitaker added eight and
Kylie Haun (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest H.S.) had seven.
Vanessa Gemignani (Colorado Springs/Doherty H.S.) helped MSU hit .235 with 36 assists.
Offensively, the Roadrunners struggled through the first set, hitting .167, but held the Eagles to a -.043 hitting percentage.
The offensive improved throughout the night as Metro State hit .214 in the second and .317 in the third.
MSU will host either Colorado Christian or UC-Colorado Springs in the first round of the RMAC tournament on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
