Box Score DENVER - The No. 7-ranked Metro State women's basketball team fell to No. 1-ranked NAIA foe Lubbock Christian on Friday night 81-63 at home in the Metro State Holiday Inn Select Classic. LCU shot 57 percent on the night in their victory.
The Roadrunners were led by
Amy Nelson (Richmond, Utah/Sky View H.S.) with her career-high 21 points and seven rebounds. Also in double figures for the Roadrunners was
Kristin Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) who totaled 12 points and seven rebounds as well.
The Lady Chaps were led by Nicole Hampton with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Emily Atkins was also in double figures for the Lady Chaps with her 12 points and Kelsey Hoppel with her 16 points.
The Roadrunners started the game out strong with a 15-7 lead in the early going of the first half, however, they were unable to sustain their lead as the Lady Chaps fought back to take the lead 35-26 going into halftime.
In the first half, the Roadrunners shot 33 percent including 0-for-6 from three while the Lady Chaps shot 48 percent while going 3-for-6 from 3-point range.
The Lady Chaps came out strong in the second half to control their lead as the Roadrunners went the first six minutes of the second half only scoring one basket. The Lady Chaps were able to hold on and the Roadrunners tried to fight back but were unable to in the last several minutes of the game falling to Lubbock Christian 81-63.
Metro State shot 37 percent on the night while going 1-of-12 from three and shooting 58 percent at the line. Lubbock Christian shot 57 percent on the night while going 9-of-14 from the outside and shooting 71 pecent at the line.
The Roadrunners will be back in action Saturday night at 7 p.m. when they host Colorado Christian.
