Men's basketball: Big second half leads to blowout road win

Box Score WINONA, Minn. - No. 5 Metro State won its third straight game to open the season, defeating Bemidji State 67-41 on Saturday evening in Winona, Minn. BSU fell to 1-1.

All five Metro State starters scored in double figures, led by Nicholas Kay (Tamworth, Australia/Newington College) with 14 points and five rebounds. Brandon Jefferson (Flower Mound, Texas/Lewisville H.S.) scored 12 and Mitch McCarron (Brisbane, Australia/Genesis Christian College), Jonathan Morse (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) and Demetrius Miller (Flint, Mich./Flint Central H.S.) each had 10.

Jefferson also led MSU with a career-high six steals and had five rebounds. McCarron dished out seven assists and shot 5-of-7 from the floor. Miller drained both of his 3-point attempts and Morse had eight rebounds.

For the second night in a row, the Roadrunners forced over 20 turnovers, coming up with 14 steals for 22 BSU turnovers on Saturday. They also outrebounded BSU 29-27 and committed just 11 turnovers, while shooting 53.2 percent from the floor. Metro outscored the Beavers 30-7 on points off turnovers.

Metro State led by as many as nine points in the first half, but took just a five-point, 24-19 lead at halftime.

The Roadrunners outscored BSU 43-22 in the second half.

Metro State returns home on Tuesday to face Johnson & Wales at 7 p.m.
