Box Score DENVER - No. 3 Metro State used a balanced attack to win 95-73 over Johnson & Wales at home on Tuesday night. The Roadrunners improved to 4-0 this season, while JWU fell to 0-8.
Four starters scored in double figures, one game after all five reached 10 points, in another balanced attack.
Jonathan Morse (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) led the Roadrunners with 20 points and 12 rebounds, hitting all six of his free throw attempts.
Mitch McCarron (Brisbane, Australia/Genesis Christian College) had another excellent all-around game with 16 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals, hitting 6-of-10 from the floor and 4-of-4 at the line.
Brandon Jefferson (Flower Mound, Texas/Lewisville H.S.) had 15 points and four assists and
Demetrius Miller (Flint, Mich./Flint Central H.S.) poured in 12 points with three assists and three steals, burying a pair of 3-pointers.
Nicholas Kay (Tamworth, Australia/Newington College) had nine points, eight rebounds and tied a career high with four steals. Sophomore
DeShawn Phenix (Fort Worth, Texas/North Crowley H.S.) scored a career-high eight points off the bench in eight minutes on the floor. Freshman
Jourdon Hunter (Denver, Colo./Kennedy H.S.) added six.
MSU dominated the boards, outrebounding the Wildcats 49-to-22, while winning the turnover battled 10-to-20. Both teams shot well from the floor, with Metro State hitting at a 46.6 percent rate and JWU making 48.1 percent. The Roadrunners made 24-of-29 (.828) at the line.
Metro State jumped out to a 27-5 lead just eight minutes into the game, but went nearly the next five minutes without a point and took a 46-35 lead into halftime.
The Roadrunners blew the game open early, outscoring JWU 15-3 in the first four minutes of the second half to lead 61-38. They led by as many as 28 points in the second half.
MSU will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 1, when it hosts Regis University at 7 p.m. to open Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
