Box Score DENVER - No. 3 Metro State never trailed as it defeated Chadron State 82-50 on Sunday night. The win increased the Roadrunners record to 9-0 on the season and 5-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The loss dropped the Eagles record to 1-9 overall and 1-5 in the RMAC.
Metro State had a balanced offensive attack as it had four players score in double figures.
Brandon Jefferson (Flower Mound, Texas/Lewisville H.S.) led the way for the Roadrunners with 16 points.
Demetrius Miller (Flint, Mich./Flint Central H.S.) added 14 points while
Mitch McCarron (Brisbane, Australia/Genesis Christian College) and
DeShawn Phenix (Fort Worth, Texas/North Crowley H.S.) both added 10 points each. Twelve of the team's 13 players scored in the game.
Nicholas Kay (Tamworth, Australia/Newington College),
Jonathan Morse (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) and
Derrick January (Long Beach, Calif./Dominguez H.S.) each had five rebounds. Kay had eight points and Morse had seven as the starters rested for much of the game.
The Roadrunners came out of the gate strong as they started the game off on a 24-0 run in the first 5:53 of the first half. Throughout the rest of the first half, the Roadrunners continued their strong showing as they were able to score 22 points off turnovers before halftime. They also had 16 second chance points in the first half and assisted on 11 of 18 of their baskets.
After leading 51-21 at halftime, MSU led by as many as 40 points and held at least a 30-point lead for the final 19 minutes.
Overall for the game, the Roadrunners shot 49 percent while holding the Eagles to 29 percent shooting. Metro State also won the rebounding margin 39-32 and forced Chadron State to commit 15 turnovers, seven of which were steals.
Metro State will be back in action until Friday Jan. 4, 2013 when it hosts New Mexico Highlands at 7 p.m.
