Box Score DENVER - Metro State allowed a new season low in points it they defeated Chadron State 68-38 on Sunday afternoon at the Auraria Event Center. The win increased the Roadrunners to 6-4 on the season and 4-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with their fourth straight win. The loss dropped the Eagles to 1-8 on the season and 1-5.
Metro State was led by 20 points from
Amy Nelson (Richmond, Utah/Sky View H.S.) and 10 points from Tai Jenson as the Eagles did not have an answer for either player in the post.
Kya DeGarmo (Albuquerque, N.M./Eldorado H.S.) had a career-high eight assists and tied her career high of six steals.
Kristin Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) and freshman
Autumn Chidester (Canadian, Texas/Canadian H.S.) each had nine points.
Elena Velasquez (Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia H.S.) added seven. Valencia also had six rebounds and four steals. Velasquez also had six boards.
The Eagles came out strong in the first minutes of the game as they led 7-4 at the 15:14 mark of the first half. However, after that, the Roadrunners went on a 29-3 run, including 25-0 at one point, to close out the first half at a score of 33-10.
In the first half, the Roadrunners forced 13 turnovers by the Eagles, eight of which were steals. Also at halftime the Roadrunners led the rebounding margin 26-11. Metro State's high pressure defense held Chadron State to 3-for-20 (.150) shooting in first half.
Coming out in the second half, Metro State was able to stretch its lead to 34 points and was able to maintain a comfortable margin throughout the rest of the game as the lead for the Roadrunners hovered around 30 points.
Metro State maintained its dominance the boards as it out rebounded Chadron State 45-31 for the game. The Roadrunners also tied their season high with 17 steals for the game. Metro State also set a season high with 19 assists.
Metro State will take the Holidays off and will not be back in action until Friday Jan. 4, 2013 when it hosts New Mexico Highlands.
