Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS - Demetrius Miller (Flint, Mich./Flint Central H.S.) scored a career-high 31 points as No. 3 Metro State cruised to a 79-54 win at UC-Colorado Springs on Friday night. MSU improved to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while UCCS fell to 0-7 and 0-3.
Miller buried 12-of-17 from the floor, including five 3-pointers, while pulling down five rebounds.
Jonathan Morse (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) added 17 points and nine rebounds, making 7-of-8 at the line, and
Mitch McCarron (Brisbane, Australia/Genesis Christian College) had 12 points, six rebounds and four steals.
Brandon Jefferson (Flower Mound, Texas/Lewisville H.S.) was limited to four points, but had a team-high four assists.
Miller kept MSU on top in an ugly first half that saw the Roadrunners shoot just 35.5 percent from the floor, while UCCS buried at a 57.9 percent rate. Miller had 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Metro State also forced 16 turnovers and committed just four in the first half.
An 8-0 run late in the first half gave the Roadrunners a 27-22 lead with under four minutes left and they never trailed again.
Metro State started the second half on a 10-3 run and opened up a 26-point lead with a 17-4 run midway through the half. The Roadrunners cooled UCCS with tougher defense, limiting the Mountain Lions to 34.8 percent shooting in the second half and forcing 10 more turnovers for a total of 26 in the game.
The Roadrunners recovered to shoot 42 percent in the game after connecting at 47.4 percent in the second half. They also committed just seven turnovers in the game.
Jordan Carter led UCCS with 12 points.
Metro State will play at Colorado State-Pueblo at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
