Women's soccer: First half flurry leads to win over Western Colorado

Box Score DENVER - Metro State scored three first-half goals as the host Roadrunners cruised to a dominating 3-0 win over Western Colorado on Labor Day. Metro improved to 2-0 on the season, while WSCU fell to 0-3.

Tess Hagenlock (Bozeman, Mont./Bozeman H.S.) got things going quickly, scoring just 2:37 into the contest on a shot from the left corner of the box after controlling a cross from the right side from Aubrey Fondy (Arvada, Colo./Faith Christian H.S.). It was Hagenlock's third goal in two games.

Karisa Price (Gilbert, Ariz./Highland H.S.) added to the lead at 23:14, taking a long pass from Becca Medina (Denver, Colo./Heritage H.S.) and scoring from just outside of the top of the box.

Noemy Polanco (Long Beach, Calif./Lakewood H.S.)'s free kick at 31:41 found Nicole Pollack (Englewood, Colo./Englewood H.S.)'s head in the box as Pollack netted a score for a 3-0 lead.

The Roadrunners had numerous chances to add to the lead, but came up short. Josalyn Martin (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins H.S.) drilled a shot off the crossbar in the 41st minute. WSCU goalkeeper Meghan Jedrzejewski made 11 saves in the game. Metro State had two headers from inside the box miss the goal by inches and another by Hagenlock that was stopped by Jedrzejewski in the second half.

Hagenlock and Price led all players with six shot attempts in the game as MSU enjoyed a 31-3 shot advantage. Jordan Simkins (Bozeman, Mont./Bozeman H.S.) stopped the only Mountaineers' shot on goal and combined with freshman Karisa Fernandez (Westminster, Colo./Standley Lake H.S.) for the shutout.

The Roadrunners will head to Austin, Texas, to face St. Edward's at 2 p.m. (CDT) on Friday.
