Box Score DENVER - No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul (Minn.) rallied after dropping the first set for a 22-25, 25-17, 25-12, 25-21 win over No. 10 Metro State at the Colorado Premier Challenge in Denver. The Roadrunners fell to 4-3 on the season and will play the loser of Cal State San Bernardino and Abilene Christian (Texas) at 2:30 p.m. at the Auraria Event Center. Concordia improved to 5-1 on the season and will face the winner of that match at 5 p.m. for the Silver Division championship.
The Golden Bears used 11 team blocks to hold Metro to a .106 hitting percentage, while connecting at a .252 clip of their own. For the second day in a row, errors plagued the Roadrunners as they committed 30 attack errors, nine service errors, eight receiving errors, four blocking errors and one ball-handling error.
Offensively,
Lauren Quijano (Wildomar, Calif./Elsinore H.S.) again led the way with 13 kills and
Alysa Heath (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) had 10.
Amy Wong (Litchfield Park, Ariz./Millennium H.S.) and
Daleah Whitaker (Denver/Lakewood H.S.) each chipped in with nine.
Setter
Vanessa Gemignani (Colorado Springs/Doherty H.S.) and
Alex Green (Peoria, Ariz./Cactus H.S.) had team-highs with 10 digs each. Gemignani also had 34 assists.
After hitting .406 in the first set, the Roadrunners cooled to -.083, .000 and .111 in the final three sets.
