Box Score DENVER - Metro State women's basketball got back to its winning ways on Friday night as it defeated Adams State 59-47. The win increased Metro State's record to 10-5 overall and 8-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The loss dropped Adams State to 5-9 overall and 2-8 in RMAC play.
The Roadrunners were led by 17 points from
Kristin Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) and 13 points from
Amy Nelson (Richmond, Utah/Sky View H.S.).
Kristin Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) also tied a career high with three blocks on the night.
The game started off close as the score after 10 minutes of play was 11-9 in favor of the Roadrunners. The Roadrunners were then able to go a 13-5 run to close out the first half at 24-14.
The second half was a half of runs as Metro State was able to push the lead to 14 with just under 15 minutes remaining. Adams State answered on a 14-4 run to close the gap to 34-30 at 10:37 left in the second half. The Roadrunners answered with an 8-3 run fueled by a couple of three point shots from
Emily Wood (Louisville, Colo./Monarch H.S.) and
Kristin Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) to push the lead to nine points.
The lead stayed around the 10-point range as Metro State was able to hold on for a 59-47 victory.
Leading the way for the Grizzlies was Kelly Hernandez with 24 points.
The Roadrunners shot 45 percent from the field including 46 from behind the arc. The Roadrunners were also able to outrebound the Grizzlies 37-26 for the game. They also held a 19-10 advantage with assists.
Metro State will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Fort Lewis at 5 p.m.
