Box Score DENVER - Metro State earned its second straight win on Friday night, sweeping Western State 25-17, 25-12, 25-10 at the Auraria Event Center. The Roadrunners improved to 11-7 overall and 7-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while WSCU fell to 1-17 and 0-10.
Metro State hit a season-best .378 in the match as the Roadrunners put down 50 kills with the aid of strong setter play from
Betty Van Lith (Eagle, Idaho/Eagle H.S.) (30 assists, five digs) and
Brandi Torr (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva H.S.) (13 assists, five digs).
Alysa Heath (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) was on fire offensively with 15 kills and a .423 (15-4-26) hitting percentage.
Lauren Quijano (Wildomar, Calif./Elsinore H.S.) was also efficient with 13 kills and a .429 (13-4-21) hitting percentage.
Kylie Haun (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest H.S.) added nine kills
Kylee Hoagland (Mead, Colo./Skyline H.S.) had seven, while hitting .455 (7-2-11).
Not to be overshadowed by the offense,
Alex Green (Peoria, Ariz./Cactus H.S.) led a strong defensive effort with 17 digs and Haun chipped in with nine. The team was perfect in serve-receive.
The Roadrunners cruised through the first set behind seven kills from Heath, holding the Mountaineers to a .000 hitting percentage with eight kills and eight attack errors.
The entire offense exploded for a .562 hitting percentage in the second set for the Roadrunners. This time it was Quijano putting down seven kills.
Hoagland, Haun and Quijano each had four kills to help the team hit .414 in the third.
Metro State will host Adams State at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
