Box Score DENVER - Metro State earned a 25-12, 20-25, 25-18, 16-25, 15-12 win at home over Adams State on Saturday evening. It was the second five-set win for the Roadrunners this week after another thriller on Thursday against Colorado State-Pueblo.
On Saturday, the Roadrunners improved to 12-7 overall with their third straight win and 8-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while ASU fell to 9-10 and 7-4. The Grizzlies were coming off three straight wins against Colorado Christian, Regis and UC-Colorado Springs.
Alysa Heath (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) led the way with 19 kills and hit .350 (19-5-40), adding two aces and three digs.
Kylie Haun (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest H.S.) followed her up with 14 kills, six digs and three aces.
Lauren Quijano (Wildomar, Calif./Elsinore H.S.) had 12 kills and hit .381 (12-4-21).
Setter
Betty Van Lith (Eagle, Idaho/Eagle H.S.) dished out 46 assists and had nine kills, hitting .533 (9-1-15). She also dug up eight attacks.
Alex Green (Peoria, Ariz./Cactus H.S.) had a team-high 13 digs and
Savannah Garcia (Platteville, Colo./Valley H.S.) added 12.
Kylee Hoagland (Mead, Colo./Skyline H.S.) had a team-high six blocks and Haun assisted on five.
The Roadrunners came out on fire in the first set, hitting .536 and using four blocks to hold the Grizzlies to a .103 hitting percentage. Haun had seven kills in the frame.
ASU used a four-point run to take a 21-16 lead in the second, while cooling the Roadrunners to a .073 hitting percentage in the set.
MSU Denver responded with a 6-0 lead to start the third and hit .406 behind seven kills from Heath. Metro State led 17-4 before the Grizzlies made a late run to close the final gap.
The Grizzlies bounced back again the fourth, taking a 14-6 lead and continuing to pull away.
Metro State jumped out to a 4-0 lead to force a quick timeout in the fifth after back-to-back blocks. The Roadrunners held an 8-3 lead before handing the Grizzlies six straight points on the aid of four attack errors. Metro State tied it back up at 9-9 after a service error.
Van Lith got the Roadrunners back in front 11-10 with a solo block on the right side. Heath crushed a kill before back-to-back points from Quijano set up match point. The Grizzlies tried a swing from the outside, but
Vasati Fiatoa (Las Vegas, Nev./Bonanza H.S.) and Quijano were there for the block to win the match.
For the match, Metro State hit .233 and held the Grizzlies to a .197 attack percentage. MSU Denver also outblocked ASUÂ 11-9.
The Roadrunners will play at Fort Lewis on Friday at 7 p.m.
