Box Score DENVER - Regis University earned a 4-2 victory at Metro State on Wednesday afternoon to clinch the regular season Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship. The Roadrunners fell to 10-4-3 overall and 8-3-2 in the RMAC, while Regis improved to 11-2-1 and 10-2-1.
Martin Maybin scored twice for the Rangers, including the first goal of the game at 21:56.
Down 2-0 in the second half, Metro State rallied.
Brock Labertew (Scottsdale, Ariz./Horizon H.S.) scored at 69:08, putting in the rebound of his own shot that was initially saved.
The Roadrunners played up a man for the final 18:48 after a red card was issued to Regis' Nicolas Morabito. The Roadrunners put nine shots toward the goal in the final 18 minutes.
Regis was awarded a penalty kick at 87:27 after a foul was called on Metro State's
Andrew Mejia (Littleton, Colo./Mullen H.S.) in the box and Maybin converted for a 3-1 lead.
The Roadrunners answered right back when
Makir Oropeza (Denver, Colo./C.E.C. Middle College) headed in a corner kick from
Brenden Hughes (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.) just 35 seconds later, trimming the deficit to 3-2.
Regis scored an insurance goal with 0.2 seconds left when Metro State goalkeeper
James Tanner (Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens H.S.) came out to midfield to help control possession and was beat by Mark Kelly for a breakaway.
Metro State will finish the regular season at Colorado Mesa on Friday.
