Women's Soccer: Metro State holds CSU-Pueblo without a shot on goal in a 3-0 victory

Box Score DENVER- Metro State didn't allow a shot on goal as it defeated Colorado State-Pueblo 3-0 on Friday afternoon.  The win increased the Roadrunners' record to 6-0-3 overall and 4-0-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  The loss dropped the ThunderWolves' record to 3-5-0 overall and 0-5-0 in the RMAC.

Scoring for the Roadrunners were Noemy Polanco (Long Beach, Calif./Lakewood H.S.) in the 38th minute, Karisa Price (Gilbert, Ariz./Highland H.S.) in the 51st minute and Brandi Farley (Colorado Springs/Pine Creek H.S.) in the 57th minute. 

In the first half, the Roadrunners controlled the pace of the game as the ball was possessed on the ThunderWolves' defensive half of the field for most of the period.  Metro State put a lot of pressure on CSU-Pueblo's defense as it shot 12 times in the first half. 

Metro State was able to capitalize on one of the opportunities when Polanco scored from the top of the box on an open goal. The ThunderWolves' defense tried to clear the ball but kicked it right to Polanco.  Assisting on the goal was Maggie Rojas (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka H.S.) and Abby Rolph (Golden, Colo./Golden H.S.).

Despite several other opportunities, the Roadrunners were unable to score another goal throughout the rest of the first half.

In the second half, Metro State got back on the board early in the period when Price scored inside the box off a cross from Farley.  The goal gave Price the a team leading fourth goal on the season.

Not to be outdone, just over six minutes later, Farley scored her fourth goal of the season off a cross from Price. 

Throughout the remainder of the second half, Metro State again controlled the pace of the game as it did not allow CSU-Pueblo to take its first shot in the game until the 63rd minute. 

Overall for the game, Metro State outshot CSU-Pueblo 25-3 including a 14-0 advantage with shots on goal.   Metro State also had the advantage on corner kicks as it took eight while CSU-Pueblo did not attempt any.

Metro State will be back in action on Sunday when it travels to Lakewood to take on Colorado Christian at 1:30 p.m.
