Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Metro State fell 3-1 at Colorado Mesa on Friday night in men's soccer to wrap up the regular season. The Roadrunners fell to 10-5-3 overall and 8-4-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CMU improved to 10-4-3 and 8-2-3.
Alan Hernandez scored an early goal at 19:09 for the Mavericks, but the game was relatively uneventful for the first 75 minutes.
At 76:02, Marco Escobar pushed CMU's lead to 2-0 with a shot just under the crossbar from the top of the box.
Metro State answered back six minutes later when
Pierce Galan (Phoenix/Seton Catholic H.S.) crossed a pass to
Andy Lopez (Phoenix/La Joya H.S.) on the left side of the goal and Lopez scored on a low shot.
Colorado Mesa answered right back just 58 seconds later as Brandon Burton ran towards a loose ball and shot from the penalty spot.
Ten of the game's 19 shots came in the final 15 minutes and Metro State outshot CMU 11-8.
James Tanner (Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens H.S.) made three saves.
Metro State will earn either the No. 3 or No. 4 seed at the RMAC tournament and will host a first-round game on Wednesday afternoon. The game time and opponent will be announced Sunday.
