Women's soccer: Three score as Roadrunners finish regular season with win

Box Score GUNNISON, Colo. - Three different players scored in the first half as Metro State finished the regular season with a 3-2 win at Western State on Friday. The Roadrunners snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 12-3-3 overall and finished 10-3-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while WSCU fell to 6-10-1 and 3-9-1 in the RMAC.

Karisa Price (Gilbert, Ariz./Highland H.S.) got the Roadrunners on the board first with a goal at 29:25 and Abby Rolph (Golden, Colo./Golden H.S.) notched her RMAC-leading ninth assist on the play.

Rolph scored less than five minutes later and Shursteen Sharpe (Westminster, Colo./Mountain Range H.S.) earned her first point of the season with the assist.

Sharpe then scored three minutes after Rolph at 37:24 to push the lead to 3-0.

The Mountaineers turned it on in the second half and put a scare into MSU Denver. Elise Boisnard scored at 50:02 off a corner kick. At 75:08, Boisnard assisted on a goal by Sadie Stark as WSCU cut the Metro State lead to one.

The Roadrunners made a goalkeeper switch with 11 minutes left, but it proved meaningless as the team stepped up its defense and did not allow another shot attempt. Nicole Jablonski (White Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Northern H.S.) made five saves in 79 minutes.

Metro State outshot Western State 18-11 in the game, but was outshot 10-5 in the second half.

The Roadrunners will be either the No. 2 or No. 3 seed in the RMAC tournament. If they are the No. 3 seed, they will host a game on Wednesday. If they earn the No. 2 seed, they will receive a first-round bye and will play in the semifinals next Friday.
