Box Score SPEARFISH, S.D. - Metro State blew a nine-point lead with less than six minutes left to fall 71-68 at Black Hills State on Friday. The Roadrunners fell to 2-6 overall and 1-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while BHSU improved to 4-4 and 3-2.
A 12-3 run gave the Roadrunners a 61-52 lead with 5:34 left, but BHSU answered with a 10-1 run to tie the game with 2:35 remaining.
Metro State led 66-64 after a jump shot in the paint by
Fawn Brady (Grand Junction, Colo./Grand Junction H.S.) with 1:24 left. BHSU hit 1-of2 at the line on its next possession and took the lead for good after a jumper by Chelsey Biegler and led 69-66 after pair of free throws by Courtney Patterson with 30 seconds to go for.
Tai Jensen (Troy, Idaho/Troy H.S.) cut the deficit to one at 69-68 with 13 seconds left, but the Yellow Jackets hit 2-of-4 at the line in the final 12 seconds to seal their win.
Amy Nelson (Richmond, Utah/Sky View H.S.) led Metro State with 14 points.
Fawn Brady (Grand Junction, Colo./Grand Junction H.S.) scored 11, while
Jenae Paine (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City H.S.) and
Cassie Lambrecht (Colorado Springs/Golden H.S.) each had 10. Paine's 10 points off the bench were a career high as she hit a pair of 3-pointers.
The Roadrunners led by as many as seven points in the first half, but went into halftime tied 31-31 with the Yellow Jackets. Nelson and Lambrecht each led Metro State with eight points at the break.
Metro State hit just 9-of-18 at the free throw line. The Roadrunners also committed 10 second-half turnovers to finish with 16.
Chelsey Biegler scored a game-high 18 points for BHSU.
The Roadrunners will look for their third win of the season on Saturday at Chadron State.
