Box Score DENVER - No. 6 Metro State pulled away from Regis University for a 71-55 win on the road on Saturday night. The Roadrunners improved to 4-1 overall, while the Rangers fell to 3-3. It was the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
Brandon Jefferson (Flower Mound, Texas/Lewisville H.S.) scored a game-high 26 points, making 14-of-15 at the free throw line and tied a career high by recording six steals to lead Metro State.
Mitch McCarron (Brisbane, Australia/Genesis Christian College) added 16 and
Nicholas Kay (Tamworth, Australia/Newington College) had 12.
Metro State forced 19 turnovers and committed a season-low five.
Regis built an early eight-point lead, but the Roadrunners used a 21-5 run to lead 27-19 with 7:20 left in the first half. Metro State took a 37-30 lead into halftime, committing just one turnover and forcing 15, overcoming a rough shooting half at 34.5 percent, while the Rangers shot 60.0 percent. Jefferson hit 8-of-8 at the line to lead all scorers with 12 points at the break.
Regis held Metro State without a point for four minutes early in the second half, going on an 8-0 run to tie the game at 40-40 with 14:07 remaining.
The Roadrunners used a 24-6 run the pull away from the Rangers, taking a 70-49 lead with 2:41 to go, the largest lead of the game.
Metro State finished the game shooting 39.6 percent, while Regis cooled to 43.2 percent.
The Roadrunners will play their first home game on Friday at 7 p.m. against UC-Colorado Springs.
