Women's basketball: Season-worst shooting snaps six-game winning streak

Box Score DURANGO, Colo. - Metro State had its six-game winning streak snapped at Fort Lewis on Friday night, falling 64-48 in Durango, Colo. The Roadrunners fell to 17-7 overall and 15-4 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while FLC improved to 15-8 and 14-5.

MSU shot a season-low 23.4 percent in what turned into a defensive battle for both teams. The Roadrunners held the Skyhawks to just 34.5 percent shooting.

Emily Wood (Louisville, Colo./Monarch H.S.) led Metro State with 11 points and Kristin Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) had 10. Amy Nelson (Richmond, Utah/Sky View H.S.) and Cassie Lambrecht (Colorado Springs/Golden H.S.) each scored eight.

The first half was an offensive struggle for both teams as MSU shot 31.3 percent and held the Skyhawks to 30.3 percent. However, Fort Lewis committed just two turnovers and forced six to lead 28-24 at the break. Wood led all scorers with eight points.

MSU opened the second half with four straight points to tie the game at 28-28, but FLC slowly pulled away and then used a 7-0 run to build a 46-35 lead with 10 minutes remaining.

Katerina Garcia led the Skyhawks with 15 points.

Metro State will travel to Adams State for a 6 p.m. game on Saturday.
