Box Score DENVER - Metro State defeated Colorado Christian 54-45 on Saturday night. The win increased the Roadrunners record to 16-6 overall and 14-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The loss dropped Colorado Christian to 13-8 overall and 10-7 in RMAC play.
Metro State is 3-0 this season against CCU.
Metro State was led by a season-high 14 points from
Jenessa Burke (Aurora, Colo./Highlands Ranch H.S.). Also scoring in double figures was
Kristin Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) with 12 points. Valencia also had a game-high 11 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season and 15th of her career.
Emily Wood (Louisville, Colo./Monarch H.S.) added nine points and
Brandi Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) had six points and seven rebounds.
In the first half the game stayed close as there were five lead changes and two times that the score was tied. The defense from both teams was very tight in the first half as Colorado Christian forced 12 turnovers from Metro State, while the Roadrunners forced 12 turnovers and held CCU to only 25 percent shooting.
At halftime Metro State led 28-23 while shooting 46 percent from the field.
In the second half, Metro State was able to go hold its halftime advantage even though Colorado Christian tried to challenge back into the game as Metro State never trailed after halftime. For the second half, Metro State outscored Colorado Christian 26-22.
Overall for the game, Metro State shot 37 percent from the field on 21-of-57 from the field. The Roadrunners also forced 19 turnovers, 11 of which were steals.
Colorado Christian was led Taylor Torres with 14 points.
Metro State will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Regis at 1 p.m.
