Box Score DENVER - No. 4 Metro State defeated Colorado Christian 87-75 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Quarterfinals on Tuesday night to advance to the RMAC Semifinals. The win increased the Roadrunners' record to 25-2 overall. The loss dropped the Cougars to 15-16 overall on the season as their season ended with the loss.
The Roadrunners outscored CCU 26-15 over the final 7:23 to pullaway from a one-point lead.
Metro State was led by
Jonathan Morse (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) with 24 points and 10 rebounds for his 10th double-double of the season. Also scoring in double figures was
Demetrius Miller (Flint, Mich./Flint Central H.S.) with 20 points,
Brandon Jefferson (Flower Mound, Texas/Lewisville H.S.) with 14 points and
Nicholas Kay (Tamworth, Australia/Newington College) with 13 points.
In the first half, Metro State came out strong as it led 12-2 at the 13:41 mark. Throughout the rest of the first half, both teams battled back and forth with Metro State unable to take control of the game. The Roadrunners led 33-21 at the 3:04 mark before the Cougars used a 7-2 run to close the half out at 35-28.
For the first half, Metro State shot 38.5 percent on 10-of-26 shooting. The Roadrunners did shoot 14-for-17 from the free throw line which was 82.4 percent.
In the second half, Colorado Christian came out strong as it used a 7-2 run early in the half to cut the lead to four points with 17:13 left in the half. Christian continued its strong pressure as it was able to cut the lead to one point with Metro State leading 61-60 with 7:53 left in the game.
Metro State used an 18-8 run to put the game away from the 7:53 mark to the 1:35 mark to increase the lead to 82-68. The Roadrunners maintained their pressure in route to an 87-75 victory.
Overall for the game, Metro State shot 50 percent on 30-of-60 shooting including 4-for-12 from behind the arc which was 33.3 percent. The Roadrunners out rebounded the Cougars 35-27 for the game. Metro State also scored 44 points in the paint compared to 24 for Colorado Christian.
Colorado Christian was led by Kyle Weaver with 16 points.
Metro State will be back in action on Friday when it hosts Colorado Mesa in the RMAC Shootout semifinals at 7 p.m.
