Women's Soccer: Metro State defeats Western State in RMAC opener

Box Score DENVER- Metro State defeated Western State 1-0 on Friday afternoon in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener for both teams.  The win increased the Roadrunners' record to 3-0-2 on the season and 1-0-0 in RMAC play.  The loss dropped the Mountaineers' record to 3-2-0 on the season and 0-1-0 in RMAC play.

In the first half, the game started off fairly slow until around the 30th minute when the Roadrunners had a lot of pressure on the Mountaineers' goal.  That pressure paid off in the 37th minute when pressure from the Roadrunners led to an own goal against the Mountaineers.

The goal happened after Jordan Post (Spearfish, S.D./Spearfish H.S.) beat the Western State goalie off the dribble and then attempted to take a shot on goal.  Post's shot crossed in front of the goal and the center defender for Western State missed on the clearing attempt and kicked the ball into the back of the Mountaineers net.

Overall for the first half, the Roadrunners outshot the Mountaineers 7-3.

In the second half, Metro State continued to maintain the pace of the game as it outshot Western State 9-3 but was unable to add another goal despite the pressure.

Nicole Jablonski (White Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Northern H.S.) earned the win for Metro State in goal and had two saves on the day.

Overall for the game, Metro State outshot Western State 16-6 including 7-3 for shots on goal.  The Roadrunners also had the advantage of corner kicks on the Mountaineers 6-1.

Metro State will be back in action on Sunday when the Roadrunners travel to Grand Junction, Colo. to take on Colorado Mesa.
