Volleyball: Roadrunners earn 3-1 road win for third straight victory

Box Score SPEARFISH, S.D. -  Metro State's volleyball team earned a 25-14, 20-25, 25-22, 25-13 win at Black Hills State on Saturday behind a season-high 15 kills from Lauren Quijano (Wildomar, Calif./Elsinore H.S.). The Roadrunners improved to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with their third consecutive victory, while BHSU fell to 4-5 and 0-2.

Quijano hit .419 (15-2-31) to lead the offensive attack as the team hit .289 in the match. Kylie Haun (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest H.S.) also reached double digits with 12 kills and added six digs. Alysa Heath (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) had 10 kills and Kylee Hoagland (Mead, Colo./Skyline H.S.) had eight, while hitting .429 (8-2-14).

Defensively Alex Green (Peoria, Ariz./Cactus H.S.) had a team-high 14 digs and Tiffany Harris (Dublin, Calif./Dublin H.S.) added 10. Heath also had five blocks, including three solo, and Hoagland and Quijano had four as the Roadrunners totaled a season-high 11 total blocks.

Betty Van Lith (Eagle, Idaho/Eagle H.S.) had 37 assists.

A five-point run with Green serving gave the Roadrunners a 20-10 lead in the first set and Metro State held BHSU to a .000 hitting percentage in the first frame.

A six-point run doomed MSU Denver in the second as the Yellow Jackets recovered to hit .348 in the second.

Metro State jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the third and rallied later after trailing 21-20.

The fourth set was all Roadrunners as they used three long runs early in the set to jump out to a 14-4 lead.

Metro State will host Colorado Mines on Friday at 7 p.m.
